about

Together with fellow musicians Hendrik Lasure, Thijs Troch and Elias Devoldere, drummer Simon Plancke visited refugee camps in Brussels and Dunkirk to converse with the camps’ inhabitants. The conversations they had there were used in a concert tour and an album that balances jazz, improvisation and electronica. They were accompanied by nine dedicated authors who recorded the stories in a wide range of texts. The differences in perspectives and emotions stand in sharp contrast to the common, often reserved opinions that we as a community hold of refugees.

Le Ravage d’Ali Baba is not a documentary, but rather brings an awareness of the plight of refugees to the surface using the creative means that each artist has at their disposal: music, word, image, illustration and imagination.
